Upper Eyelid Lift in Berlin, MD

Upper Eyelid Lift

An upper eyelid lift, also known as upper blepharoplasty, improves the appearance of the eyes by removing excess skin and tightening tissue. This restores a more youthful, refreshed look. Over time, the delicate skin around the eyes can stretch and lose elasticity, creating a tired or aged appearance.

Combining surgical skill with an eye for detail, Dr. Perrotta and Dr. Luppens perform eyelid lift procedures at Peninsula Plastic Surgery in Berlin, MD, to rejuvenate and brighten the eyes with precision and care. Using refined techniques, they remove excess skin and fat while concealing incisions within the eyelid’s natural creases, allowing patients to heal beautifully with subtle, natural-looking results and minimal recovery time.

Goals Of An Upper Eyelid Lift

Candidates For Blepharoplasty

You may be a good candidate for an upper eyelid lift if you:

What to Expect at Your Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Luppens will discuss your goals, evaluate the condition of your eyelids, and explain the options available for achieving your desired results. A focused physical examination helps determine the best surgical approach for your specific anatomy.

Once your treatment plan is established, our aesthetic coordinator will provide a detailed written estimate outlining all costs associated with your procedure. At that time, a pre-op appointment will also be scheduled.

Pre-Op Visit

Your preoperative visit ensures you are fully prepared for surgery. A medical assistant will take pre-op photographs for your records, and your surgeon will review the planned technique in detail. You’ll be informed about what to expect during surgery, recovery, and any possible complications, though major risks are rare.

You will be assessed physically and medically to determine if you are ready for surgery. All consent forms will be signed, final payments made, and you’ll receive confirmation of your arrival time 24 hours before your procedure.

The Upper Eyelid Lift Procedure

Upper eyelid lift surgery is performed under local anesthesia with or without IV sedation for your comfort. Once the area has been numbed, the surgeon makes a fine incision along the natural crease of the eyelid. The incision is carefully made to remove any excess skin, fatty tissue, and tighten the remaining tissue. The incisions are then closed using delicate nylon sutures to ensure minimal scarring.

Patients at Peninsula Plastic Surgery benefit from the convenience and privacy of an AAAHC-accredited surgical suite located within the Salisbury office complex. A state-of-the-art facility that offers comfort and safety for outpatient procedures.

Post-Op Recovery

Most patients return home the same day with light dressings applied to the eyes. Mild discomfort can be managed easily with oral pain medication. It typically takes 2–3 weeks for swelling and bruising to subside, and most patients can return to work within two weeks.

Sutures either dissolve naturally or are removed during your follow-up visit, usually between 3–5 days after surgery. Your healing will be monitored through multiple follow-up appointments, ensuring the best results.

Health Insurance

For cosmetic reasons, upper eyelid surgery is usually not covered by insurance. However, if excess skin is impairing your vision and the procedure is deemed medically necessary, your insurance provider may cover some or all of the costs.

Lower Eyelid Lift

A lower eyelid lift, or lower blepharoplasty, helps reduce puffiness, bags, and sagging skin beneath the eyes. This procedure restores a smoother, more refreshed appearance, giving patients a well-rested and youthful look.

Dr. Perrotta and Dr. Luppens use modern surgical techniques to minimize scarring by placing incisions along the natural lower eyelid creases. For patients with only excess fat and no loose skin, transconjunctival fat removal allows fat to be removed within the lower eyelid without leaving a scar.

Pre-Op Visit

Your preoperative visit is an important step in preparing for surgery. During this appointment, one of our experienced medical assistants will take preoperative photographs for your medical record and surgical planning. Your surgeon will then review the surgical technique in detail, discuss the recovery process, and address any potential risks or complications that could arise. Although all surgical procedures carry some level of risk, major complications are uncommon. Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Luppens will also review your full medical history, perform a final physical examination, and check your vital signs to ensure you are in good health for surgery. The Lower Eyelid Surgery

A local anesthetic is typically used with or without IV sedation to perform the procedure, although general anesthesia can be provided if necessary. Incisions are usually made inside the lower eyelid or just beneath the lash line, depending on the technique used. It is carefully removed when excess skin and fat are present, and the remaining tissue is tightened for a more youthful contour.

It’s important to note that while a lower eyelid lift significantly improves the under-eye area, it does not eliminate all fine lines or crow’s feet. Additional skin treatments, such as laser resurfacing, may be recommended for enhanced results.

Post-Op Recovery

After surgery, patients are advised to keep their head elevated and use cold compresses for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling. Mild discomfort is managed with oral pain medication. Stitches are removed within 3–7 days, and bruising and sensitivity to light generally subside within one to two weeks.

You can typically wear eye makeup or contact lenses after your surgeon confirms healing, usually within 7–10 days. During follow-up visits, your progress is monitored to ensure a smooth recovery.

Health Insurance

Cosmetic procedures such as lower blepharoplasty are not generally covered by insurance.
