About Implant Types & About Implant Sizes

What to Expect at Your Consultation

Your consultation is the first step in planning your breast augmentation. Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Luppens will discuss your personal goals, answer your questions, and perform a focused physical exam. They will explain what options are best suited for your anatomy and desired outcome.

Once your surgical plan is established, our aesthetic coordinator will provide a written cost estimate. This ensures you have complete clarity on pricing. Your pre-operative appointment will also be scheduled at this time.

Pre-Op Visit

Your pre-op appointment will prepare you thoroughly for surgery. Here’s what to expect:

  • One of our medical assistants will take pre-op photographs.
  • Your surgeon will explain the surgical technique in detail, including potential risks and expected recovery. While every surgery carries some risk, serious complications are uncommon.
  • A full review of your medical history and a physical exam will be completed to confirm you are medically cleared.

At this visit, informed consent forms will be signed, final payments will be completed, and you will receive a call 24 hours before your procedure with your scheduled arrival time.

The Breast Enlargement Surgery

Breast augmentation is performed in the comfort and privacy of our fully accredited operating suite in Berlin, MD. Patients may receive general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia based on their needs.

Incision Placement

  • Inframammary (breast crease): A small incision hidden beneath the breast fold.
  • Periareolar: An incision around the areola for a discreet scar.

Other incision locations, such as the armpit or belly button, are less common because they limit the surgeon’s visibility and precision.

Implant Placement

In most cases, implants are placed beneath the pectoralis major muscle. This creates a more natural look and lowers the risk of capsular contracture. Occasionally, implants may be placed above the muscle for patients seeking a more pronounced appearance.

Advanced Techniques

To minimize scarring, Dr. Perrotta uses the [Keller Funnel®], which allows for smaller incisions and precise implant placement. All implants are rinsed in antibiotic solution before placement to reduce infection risk.

After the implants are inserted, the incisions are closed with multiple layers of sutures, followed by dressings and a supportive post-op garment.

Post-Op Recovery

After surgery, you will go home wearing a supportive elastic bra that minimizes bleeding and prevents excess breast movement.

  • Pain: Most patients experience mild pain for 2–3 days, followed by some discomfort for up to two weeks. Pain medication helps manage these symptoms.
  • Activity: Patients typically return to light, non-strenuous activities within a week, but should avoid exercise or heavy lifting for several weeks.
  • Follow-Up: You will see your surgeon within the first week, again at 2–3 weeks, 6–8 weeks, and then annually. These follow-up visits are complimentary.
  • Long-Term Care: Annual checkups help monitor for implant changes or capsular contracture. Routine mammograms are also recommended starting at age 35.

FAQ’s

Women with small, uneven, or deflated breasts due to genetics, pregnancy, or weight loss are ideal candidates. Women with mild sagging may also benefit.

Breast size and shape improve immediately after surgery, though the final results take several months as swelling resolves and implants settle naturally.

Results are long-lasting, though breast implants typically need replacement or removal after 10–15 years.

Before surgery, follow all pre-op instructions, including fasting and adjusting certain medications. After surgery, wear your support garment, limit strenuous activities, and attend follow-up appointments.

Expect several days of downtime with mild swelling, bruising, and temporary changes in nipple sensitivity. Most patients return to normal daily activities within one week.

Your consultation will outline a personalized plan. Surgery is performed in a private, accredited facility. With attentive follow-up care, most patients enjoy long-lasting improvements in body contour and self-confidence.
