Arm Lift in Berlin, MD

How Brachioplasty Reshapes and Tightens Your Arms

Over time, the upper arms can begin to lose tone and develop sagging skin due to natural aging or significant weight loss. An arm lift, more commonly referred to as a brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that restores a firmer, slimmer appearance to the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat. Whether your concerns are cosmetic or functional, this procedure offers a transformative solution to improve upper arm contour.

At Peninsula Plastic Surgery in Berlin, MD, our experienced plastic surgeons, Dr. Perrotta and Dr. Kerestes, specialize in arm lift surgery. Their refined techniques and attention to detail help deliver natural-looking results with minimal downtime and discreet scarring. Each surgical plan is customized based on your anatomy and goals, ensuring a personalized approach to treatment. As a result of this procedure, many patients are more confident in wearing sleeveless clothing and enjoy greater ease with daily movement following this procedure. Some cases of liposuction can also be combined with brachioplasty for a more comprehensive contour and definition.

What to Expect at Your Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Kerestes will take the time to learn about your goals, medical history, and concerns. A focused physical examination will help determine the amount of skin laxity and whether liposuction may be needed in combination with skin removal. Once a treatment plan is developed, our aesthetic coordinator will provide a written quote outlining the total cost of the arm lift surgery. This estimate includes all related fees, so you can move forward with full confidence. At that time, we will also schedule your pre-operative appointment.

Pre-Op Visit

Your pre-op visit is a key part of your surgical preparation. Here is what you can expect:

  • One of our medical assistants will take pre-op photos
  • During surgery, your surgeon will explain the procedure and review potential risks
  • You will complete a detailed health history and final physical exam
  • Upon signing all consent forms, all information will be reviewed and recorded
  • Final payment is collected at this visit, and your arrival time will be communicated to you 24 hours prior to surgery

The Brachioplasty Procedure

It is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. Incisions are carefully placed along the inner side of the arms, where they are less visible. The surgeon removes excess skin, and if needed, liposuction is used to eliminate stubborn fat pockets. Once the skin and fat are removed, the area is tightened to create a more sculpted appearance. No surgical drains are usually required. The incisions are dressed, and a supportive elastic garment is applied to help control swelling and maintain the new arm shape.

Post-Op Recovery

Most patients are discharged the same day, wearing their compression garment and surgical dressings. Pain and discomfort are typically well managed with prescribed oral medication.

  • Bruising and swelling are expected to subside within 2 to 3 weeks
  • Most patients return to work and light activities within 10 to 14 days
  • Sutures will either dissolve naturally or be removed during a follow-up visit within 3 to 5 days
  • You will attend several post-op appointments to monitor healing and progress

Following your arm lift, you will receive detailed instructions to help you recover smoothly and minimize the appearance of arm lift scars over time.
