Laser Liposuction (also called Smart Liposuction, SmartLipo, Slim Lipo, Lipotherme, laser-assisted lipolysis, and Laserpro) is a minimally invasive procedure to remove small accumulations of fat and smooth areas that contain cellulite. This state-of-the-art process is like melting butter, and as compared to other forms of liposuction, produces a smoother result. Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino utilize this melting effect of the laser to correct contour irregularities resulting from previous surgeries, and it enables them to effectively treat cellulite and tighten the skin.
Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino have developed a sensitive and discreet process for preparing you for laser liposuction. Your consultation is important because you and your plastic surgeon must be “on the same page” regarding the results you want. This is why Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will devote as much time as necessary to discuss your individual goals and needs with you.
Dr. Pellegrino or Dr. Perrotta performs a focused physical examination to provide preliminary recommendations and determine whether you would benefit more from Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) or traditional Liposuction. Our aesthetic coordinator will produce a written quote which lists all costs of your procedure so that there are no surprises.
Much is covered during your pre-op visit. First, one of our highly trained medical assistants will take pre-op photos. Next, your surgeon will explain the surgical techniques to you and thoroughly inform you as to what you can expect, including any potential complications. Note that all procedures involve some risk, but major complications from laser liposuction are rare. Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will then obtain a more complete medical history from you and perform a final pre-op physical examination, including a check of your vital functions to ensure that you are physically fit for the procedure. Prior to releasing you from your pre-op visit, your doctor and our staff will give you detailed instructions for the time leading up to your surgery, as well as for the time immediately following it.
Your surgeon will anesthetize the area he intends to correct. He then inserts a cannula (blunt metal tube) under the skin, and the laser light energy heats the fat cells, liquefying them. The controlled heat that the laser produces causes the skin to retract, which creates a skin tightening effect. Additional benefits of this cutting edge technology include less post-operative bruising and shorter downtime after the procedure. Read more about Lipotherme.
Results from laser liposuction generally begin to show up within 1-2 weeks of treatment and continue to improve for 12-16 weeks or even several months. One of the main advantages of Lipotherme is that there is little downtime required. You can return to work and other activities the next day, but exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for a few days.
