Microdermabrasion
WHO COULD BENEFIT?
Microdermabrasion is suited particularly for the working women or man who cannot afford any healing or "down" time. This is so because microdermabrasion produces no noticable wound. Following a treatment, no work is missed.
Women and men with sun damaged skin on the face.
Women and men with skin blotches or color variation on the face.
Women and men with very fine wrinkling of the facial skin.
Women and men with "black heads."
Women and men with large pores.
THE GOALS:
Gradual improvement in the following ways:
More uniform color of the facial skin.
Improvement in fine wrinkling.
Smaller pores.
Avoidance of "black heads."
THE PROCEDURE:
Patients with darker skin should be on a skin bleacher for several weeks prior to a microdermabrasion treatment.
Our certified aesthetician performs the procedure in our Renaissance Room.
First she gently cleanses the skin on the face.
Next, she performs the Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a process by which the very top layers of skin are gently and painlessly removed. Our machine thrusts tiny particles of sand-like material against the skin. An in-line vacume collects the particles so they don't make a mess.
Much of the extra pigment or color of sun-damaged skin resides in the very top layers of skin, so as the aesthetician removes those top layers of skin, she also removes some of the excessive pigmentation. In addition, once of the top layers of skin are removed, skin care products the patient is already taking (Retin-A, Hydroquinone, etc.) can better penitrate the skin and therefore become more potent or effective.
Next, our aesthetician coats the face with a comforting moisturizing cream.
One of these treatments takes approximately 1/2 hour. We recommend a series of 5-7 treatments, one to two weeks between each treatment. Following an initial series of treatments, many patients opt for one or two refresher teatments annually.
POST-OP RECOVERY:
The greatest advantage of microdermabrasion over other forms of treatment is its absence of a recovery period or "down time." The wound produced by microdermabrasion is microscopic, so no one can see it.
Make-up can be applied the next morning.
There no missing work.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
More potent approaches in improving skin rejuvenation include Obagi Blue Peel and CO2 laser resurfacing, though both require "down time."
CO2 laser resurfacing is the most effective method of treating deep winkles.
Our KTP laser is very effective in treating well-difine, relatively dark spots on the face.
INSURANCE?
Insurance companies consider microdermabrasion to be a cosmetic procedure. Therefore, they do not cover the cost of a treatment.
NOTE
The suitability of microdermabrasion for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications occur occasionally. Major complications are quite rare.
