Liposculpture

WHO COULD BENEFIT?

Women and men who have excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise.

Women and men who desire changes in body contour or proportions.

While most patients are near normal weight, liposculpture can be useful to heavier persons as well.

THE GOALS:

Improvement in body contour and proportions.

A more flattering figure or physique, in or out of clothing.

THE PROCEDURE:

We usually perform this procedure on an outpatient basis. However, on those occasions when we remove a great deal of fat, we observe the patient overnight in the hospital

We usually utilize IV sedation and local anesthesia. Some patients opt for general anesthesia. We prefer general anesthesia when we treat many sites at once or we espect to remove a large volume of fat.

First, we inject a solution that numbs the area and prevents excessive bleeding.

Next, we insert small suction tubes (canulas) through very short incisions and remove the excess fat.

After we close the tiny incision, we apply a compression garment that controls swelling and bruising.

POST-OP RECOVERY:

The patient goes home with the compression garment. We advise compression for about a month.

Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

Bruising and swelling usually subside in 2-4 weeks. The final result takes shape over 2-3 months.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:

Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Tummy Tuck, Breast Reduction, Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation, or Thigh Lift.

INSURANCE?

This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.

NOTE

The suitability of liposuction for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have some risks. Minor complications do occur occasionally. Major complications are quite rare.
