Face lift

WHO COULD BENEFIT?

If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity on the face and neck.

If you have the appearance of jowls and hanging skin under your chin and on the front of your neck.

If you have developed facial and neck wrinkles.

If you believe you lack youthful chin and neck contours.

If you think you have a tired facial appearance.

THE GOALS:

A more rested and youthful contour to the face and neck.

THE PROCEDURE:

We perform the operation with local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia.

In most cases, the main incisions are made within the hairline above the ear, extending down around the lobe and ending in or below the hairline behind the ear. Some patients require hairline incisions. Some patients also require an incision under the chin.

The skin is elevated so that it can be redraped.

Facial and neck muscles that sag are tightened.

The facial skin is redraped and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.

Next, we apply a soft, bulky dressing.

POST-OP RECOVERY:

Most patients go home the day of surgery with the head and neck wrapped in bulky dressings, which are usually removed the next day in the office.

Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.

Sutures in front of the hairline are removed in 3-5 days after surgery and sutures and staples behind it are removed 1-3 weeks after surgery.

Bruising and swelling decrease to "socially acceptable" levels in 10-20 days.

The final result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:

Additional procedures that might enhance the result are: eyelid lift, brow lift, chemical peel, dermabrasion, chin enlargement, nose reshaping, fat suction, laser skin resurfacing, cheekbone enhancement, augmentation/enhancement of lips, reduction of earlobes.

INSURANCE?

This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.

NOTE

The suitability of a facelift for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications do occur occasionally. Major complications are quite unusual.
