Dermabrasion

WHO COULD BENEFIT?

Individuals with facial wrinkles, sun spots or unsightly scars.

THE GOALS:

Smoother skin.

Skin with better tone.

THE PROCEDURE:

We usually utilize local anesthesia alone. A handheld device spins a head covered with diamond chips. When applied to the surface of the skin, the diamond chips gently abrade away the top layers of skin, removing wrinkles and sun spots and superficial scars.

POST-OP RECOVERY:

The wound created by this procedures resembles an abrasion, most of which heal withing fourteen days.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:

An alternative to dermabrasion is CO2 laser resurfacing.

INSURANCE?

Insurance usually covers the procedrue if it is being performed for scarring or sun-damaged skin.

When the procedure is performed for cosmetic reasons, health insurance plays no role.

NOTE

The suitability of dermabrasion for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications occur occasionally. Major complications are quite rare.
