Chemical Peel
WHO COULD BENEFIT?
Individuals with pigment irregularity over your entire face.
Individuals with fine wrinkling.
THE GOALS:
More uniform skin tone and improvement of fine wrinkling.
Improved self image.
THE PROCEDURE:
Generally speaking, patients should be on Retin-A and Hydroquinone for at least three weeks prior to a chemical peel. This ensures a more uniform penetration of the peel and lowers the risk of pigment irregularities following the procedure.
We perform the 20% Obagi Blue Peel with IV sedation. The 15% Obagi Blue Peel require no sedation.
First, we thoroughly cleanse the face. We then provide the IV sedation, if indicated. Next we apply one to three coats of the peel solution, pausing for at least two minutes between coats. The entire process takes twenty to thirty minutes.
POST-OP RECOVERY:
Patients follow the specific written instructions that apply to each particular peel.
Following a 15% Obagi blue peel, most patients expience a dry, flakey peel for up to ten days. Thereafter the skin is pink for several weeks, but the pink hue could be covered with make-up.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
Laser resurfacing is more effective in treating the deepest of wrinkles.
INSURANCE?
We usually perform chemical peels for cosmetic reasons. Therefore, we do not expect health insurance to cover the cost of the procedure.
NOTE
The suitability of chemical peel for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications occur occasionally. Major complications are quite rare.
