Breast Augmentation

WHO COULD BENEFIT?

Women who desire larger breasts.
Women with a low degree of breast sagging and smaller breasts.
Women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other.

THE GOALS:

Larger and more shapely breasts.
Breasts that are even in size and shape.
Improvement in body contour and proportions.
A more positive self image.

THE PROCEDURE:

We perform the procedure on an outpatient basis. Some patients prefer heavy IV sedation and local anesthesia while other require general anesthesia.

We can place our incisions either just above the inferior mammary crease (breast fold) or around the areola.

We then establish a pocket to receive the implant. In most cases, the majority of the pocket lies under the pectoralis major muscle.

We soak the implant in antibiotic solution and then insert it into the pocket.

We then meticulously closed the wounds and apply the dressings and post-op garment.

POST-OP RECOVERY:

Our patients go home with an elastic bra. The bra helps hold the breasts in the perfect location, produces pressure to prevent bleeding, and provides support to reduce discomfort.

Oral narcotic medication controls the initial pain which can be significant. After the first 3-5 days, most patients require only Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

If there are external sutures that do not dissolve on their own, we usually remove them in 3-6 days.

Patients can resume light activities as tolerated and strenuous physical activity in approximately 2 weeks.

Moving or sliding the implants within the breast pockets during the postoperative period may reduce the risk of wrinkling and capsular contracture.

Most patients are able to perform their full duties at home or in the work place 1-2 weeks after surgery.

In most cases, we teach our patients post-op massaging exercises that reduce the risk of capsular contracture.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:

An additional procedure that might enhance the result is a Mastopexy (breast lift).

INSURANCE?

The procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.

NOTE

The suitability of breast enlargement for an individual is determined during the consultation. All procedures have some risks. Minor complications occur occasionally, and major complications are unusual.
