Re-talk
This step is required by patients who are interested in undergoing the procedure but just not quite sure or ready to make a commitment. We fully understand such uncertainty. We even appreciate the need some patients have for multiple Re-talks.
Pre-Op visit
A trained member of our staff will:
- take your pre-op pictures
- take additional medical information from you
- present you with additional information about your procedure, including potential complications
- measure you for your post-op compression garment
Your surgeon will perform a pre-op physical exam. You and he will further discuss your surgery. He will elaborate on his technique and what you should expect during your recovery period. He will review with you and explain the list of potential complications. He will provide you with prescriptions for pre-op labs (if needed) and post -op pain medication, antibiotics and anti-nausea pills (if needed). Lastly, if you work away from your home, he will provide you your work release note.
You will sign your informed consent form(s).
Day of Surgery
You will provide information to one of our operating room nurses.
If you are receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia or a regional block, the nurse will provide you with an IV and then introduce you to your anesthesiologist.
Your anesthesiologist will interview you, explain the approach and technique he will use for you, and discuss potential anesthesia complications.
Your surgeon will use a surgical marking pen to place your pre-op markings. These will guide him during the surgery.
The nurse will walk or wheel you into the operating room. If you are receiving IV sedation, general anesthesia or regional anesthesia, you probably won't be aware or remember this step.
