Initial Consultation for an Eyebrow Lift

Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino have developed a warm and friendly process for preparing you for a browlift. Your consultation is important because you and your plastic surgeon must be “on the same page” regarding the results you want. This is why Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will devote as much time as necessary to discuss your individual goals and needs with you.

Dr. Pellegrino or Dr. Perrotta performs a focused physical examination to provide preliminary recommendations. Once he determines his surgical plan, our aesthetic coordinator will produce a written quote which lists all costs of your proposed surgery so that there are no surprises. At that time, an appointment is set for your pre-op visit.

Additional procedures that may enhance the result of a brow lift include lower eyelid surgery, upper eyelid surgery, or a facelift.

Pre-op Visit

Much is covered during your pre-op visit. First, one of our highly trained medical assistants will take pre-op photos. Next, your surgeon will explain the surgical technique to you and thoroughly inform you as to what you can expect, including any potential complications. While all procedures carry some risk, a brow lift is a very safe surgery, and major complications are rare.

Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will then obtain a more complete medical history from you and perform a final pre-op physical examination, including a check of your vital functions to ensure that you are physically fit for surgery. Prior to releasing you from your pre-op visit, your doctor and our staff will give you detailed instructions for the time leading up to your surgery, as well as for the time immediately following it.

The Brow Lift Surgery

Most patients require only local anesthesia and IV sedation, but some request general anesthesia. Dr. Perrotta or Pellegrino places the incisions behind, at, or below the hairline, depending on the specific goals of your surgery and the location of your hairline prior to the procedure. For patients who desire their scars located well behind the hairline, Dr. Perrotta or Pellegrino utilize the endoscopic approach.

There are different types of brow lifts, but essentially, Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will surgically release the entire eyebrow or only its outer half from the underlying bony structures, which will enable the eyebrow or its outer half to migrate upward.  He will then secure the forehead and eyebrow to their new locations with sutures.  Lastly, the incisions are closed and covered with soft, comfortable dressings.

Post-op Recovery

You can go home the same day with your head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed several days after surgery during your post-operative visit. In most cases, drains are not necessary. Any initial discomfort is controlled with oral pain medication. Sutures at or in front of the hairline are removed in 3-6 days. Sutures or staples behind the hairline are removed in approximately 1-3 weeks. Most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days. After your procedure, you will follow up with us several times so that we can monitor your healing.

Insurance

A brow lift is usually considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance. If the eyebrow ptosis (droopiness) interferes with your vision, your health insurance might cover the procedure.
