A thigh lift or thighplasty is a plastic surgery procedure, during which your plastic surgeon removes excess fat and sagging skin from your thighs in order to reshape and tighten them. An inner thigh lift is called a medial thigh lift, while an outer thigh lift is referred to as a lateral thigh lift.
Drs. Pellegrino and Perrotta have extensive experience with thigh lifts, giving patients a more attractive, youthful appearance on the upper legs.
Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino have developed a sensitive and friendly process for preparing you for thigh lift surgery. Your consultation is important because you and your plastic surgeon must be “on the same page” regarding the results you want. This is why Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will devote as much time as necessary to discuss your individual goals and needs with you.
Dr. Pellegrino or Dr. Perrotta performs a focused physical examination to provide preliminary recommendations. Once he determines his surgical plan, our aesthetic coordinator will produce a written quote, which lists all costs of your proposed surgery so that there are no surprises. At that time, an appointment is set for your pre-op visit.
Much is covered during your pre-op visit. First, one of our highly trained medical assistants will take pre-op photos. Next, your surgeon will explain the surgical technique to you and thoroughly inform you as to what you can expect, including any potential complications. Note that all procedures involve some risk, but major complications from a thigh lift are rare.
Dr. Perrotta or Dr. Pellegrino will then obtain a more complete medical history from you and perform a final pre-op physical examination, including a check of your vital functions to ensure that you are physically fit for surgery. Prior to releasing you from your pre-op visit, your doctor and our staff will give you detailed instructions for the time leading up to your surgery, as well as for the time immediately following it.
Most thigh lifting procedures require general anesthesia or heavy IV sedation. In selected patients, epidural anesthesia suffices. Your surgeon will hide your incisions inside the groin area, inside your bikini line. For some patients, however, vertical incisions are necessary. Your surgeon then removes the excess skin on the thighs, and if necessary, will also perform liposuction. Thereafter, our staff applies dressings and your post-op garment.
In most cases, you can go home the same day. If you are a more mature patient, however, your surgeon may have you stay overnight in the hospital. You should be able to return to work within 2-3 weeks, but you must keep your knees together for about six weeks. After your procedure, you will follow-up with us several times so that we can monitor your healing.
If you suffer from rashes inside folds of excess skin on your thighs, your health insurance might cover a portion of your thigh lift surgery.
