WHO COULD BENEFIT?
If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity on the fce and neck.

If you are beginning to develop jowls and hanging skin under your chin.

If you have developed facial and neck wrinkles.

If you think you have a tired facial appearance.

THE GOALS:
A more rested and youthful contour to the face and neck.

THE PROCEDURE:
We usually perform the operation with local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia. Some patients require only local anesthesia. General anesthesia is always an option too.

In most cases, the incisions are made at or behind the hairline at the temples, under the sideburns and around the ears.

The skin is elevated so that it can be redraped.

Facial and neck muscles that sag can be tightened.

The facial skin is redraped and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.

Next, we apply a soft, bulky dressing.

POST-OP RECOVERY:
Most patients go home the day of surgery with the head and neck wrapped in bulky dressings or a thin, elastic garment. Bulky dressings are usually removed within a couple of days.

Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.

We removed visible in 3-7 days. We remove hidden sutures in 3-10 days.

Bruising and swelling decrease to "socially acceptable" levels in 10-20 days.

The final result is evident in approximately 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
If you have jowls that are extensive or a large amount of excess skin that hangs on your neck, a full face lift probably is more appropriate for you. Additional procedures that might enhance the result are: eyelid lift, brow lift, chemical peel, dermabrasion, chin enlargement, nose reshaping, fat suction, laser skin resurfacing, cheekbone enhancement, augmentation/enhancement of lips, reduction of earlobes.

INSURANCE?
This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.

NOTE
The suitability of a facelift for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications do occur occasionally. Major complications are quite unusual.
