WHO COULD BENEFIT?
A man or woman with eyebrows that hang too low, too close to the eyes.An individual who appears fatigued because the outer half of the eyebrows droop.
An individual with wrinkling or furrowing of the skin on the forehead.
THE GOALS:
There are several types of browlifts. However, the ultimate goals are the same for every patient: a more youthful eyebrow shape and location, and forehead skin with less or no wrinkling.
THE PROCEDURE:
Most patients require only local anesthesia and IV sedation, but some request general anesthesia. The plastic surgeon places the incisions behind, at, or below the hairline, and the incisions might be short or long, depending on the specific goals of surgery and the location of the patient's hairline prior to the procedure.
The plastic surgeon surgically releases from the underlying bony structures all or specifically the outer half of the eyebrow.
The plastic surgeon elevates the entire or the outer half of the eyebrow and then secures it in its new position by removing the excess forehead and/or scalp skin. An alternative is to simply allow the soft tissue to shift backward and then secure it with special clips.
Lastly, he closes the wounds and applies a soft, comfortable dressing.
POST-OP RECOVERY:
The patient goes home with his or her head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed several days after surgery. In most cases, drains are not utilized.Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.
Sutures at or in front of the hair-line are removed in 3-6 days.
Sutures or staples behind the hair-line are removed in approximately 1-3 weeks.
Most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Lower and/or Upper Eyelid Lift, Face Lift, or other facial procedures or implants.
INSURANCE?
This procedure usually is considered cosmetic and therefore not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment. On occasion, health insurance will pay for the surgery, provided the eyebrow ptosis (droopiness) interferes with the patient's vision.
NOTE:
The suitability of a browlift for an individual is determined during the office consultation. All procedures have risks. Minor complications occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
